LYMPHEDEMA THERAPY PROVIDED BY CERTIFIED PT

Lymphedema is an accumulation of lymphatic fluid in the interstitial tissue that causes swelling, most often in the arms and/or legs. The swelling results from an impaired circulation where the lymphatic load of fluid exceeds the systems transport capacity. Lymphedema is a chronic condition. If left untreated, the excess protein will attract more fluid and cells and cause the condition to progress. Repeated infections, decreased movement, and skin changes can occur. Lymphedema can develop when lymphatic vessels are impaired or missing, or when lymph vessels are damaged or lymph nodes removed.   Physical Therapy is a proven, effective intervention.  Dr. Jones is a CERTIFIED Lymphedema Therapist.  Appointments are available Monday - Friday by calling 252-758-7048.

Melissa Kelly, PTA, LBMT

             CareWorks Therapy is pleased to announce the additon of Melissa Kelly, PTA, LMBT, to our Arlington Boulevard outpatient clinic staff.  Melissa earned her BS degree from the University of Bridgeport and has completed graduate studies at EastCarolinaUniversity.  A practicing Physical Therapist Assistant since 1991,  she is a practitioner with a tremendous knowledge base due to the many years of work experience across the lifespan in the health care system.  She is a 2000 graduate of the Alpha School of Massage and Bodywork.  She is nationally certified and NC licensed as a Massage and Bodywork therapist.   She provides physical therapy services under the supervision of doctoral level physical therapists.  In addition to traditional interventions, she provides medical massage, an alternative effective treatment for chronic pain and a number of other musculoskeletal disorders.  She offers various types of massage including Swedish massage for relaxation and stress reduction.
